Nagaoka Red Cross Hospital is situated in the west shore of the River Shinano, the longest river in Japan, in Nagaoka City.
From the windows of the Hospital, a great view of Higashiyama Mountains, Nishiyama Mountains, and Echigo Mountains can be obtained.
The hospital has a pleasant environment surrounded by "Senshugahara Plain", where we can enjoy a beautiful scenery of trees, plants, and their blossoms all through the four seasons.
Close to the hospital, there are many cultural and educational institutes including Niigata Museum of Modern Art, Hive Nagaoka (a convention hall), and Nagaoka Institute of Design, and their is why this area is called "the Cultural Center of the International City of Nagaoka."

Affiliated with the hospital, Nagaoka Red Cross School of Nursing is established for the education and training of nursing students.
Based on the Red Cross Strategy of Humanity, the nursing education has been carried on with the individualistic instructing system.

4 : Brief History of Nagaoka Red Cross Hospital

1931, May	Japanese Red Cross Society started the management of Nagaoka Hospital (founded in 1873).	100 beds
1934, October	The new hospital building was constructed at Nisseki-cho, Nagaoka City.	160 beds
1958, June	The extension of the hospital building was performed.	314 beds
1969, July	Traffic Emergency Center, and Neurosurgery Department were instituted.	442 beds
1979, November	Emergency Medical Center, and a new annex building were constructed.	668 beds
1983, April	Life Support and Emergency Center was constructed and was affiliated to the hospital.	(30 beds)
1996, November	Niigata Prefectural Government designated the hospital as a Medical Center for Disaster Relief.
1997, August	The new hospital building and nursing school were constructed in the present location.	751 beds
